Collaborative Visual Conversation: Round I
March 1 - May 3, Tuesdays @ 12pm - 1:30 ET
(Zoom meetings March 1, 8, 22, and May 3)
With a spring break to create time for collaboration.
Photography allows us to communicate what is important and moves us in ways that words sometimes cannot.
As photographers, we usually work alone. Visual conversations are an opportunity to create in community. In meaningful conversation, there is attentiveness and a flow of expression and ideas that connect us to each other, while lighting up new places in our minds.
This collaborative group will explore the visual dialogue that develops by responding to a photographic prompt. This is the first in a series of collaborative opportunities. We are grateful to: Yvonne Dalshen and Melanie Carvalho for launching this collaborative group and invite you to come help shape this new creative offering.
To give plenty of time for sharing, this group is limited to 6 participants plus two facilitators:
Yvonne Dalschen grew up in Germany and is now based in Oak Ridge, TN. She loves the freedom of digital photography, experimentation and engaging with multiple styles is part of her practice. Leaning in on signs and traces, she likes to create visual multiplicity through layers and diptychs. Her work has been included in regional and national exhibitions and she is active in her local art scene.
Melanie Carvalho is a Tucson-based photographer whose practice leans towards complex themes such as history, memory, race, and identity. Careers at Smithsonian Magazine, The Image Bank (now known as Getty Images), New York Foundation For The Arts and The Maui Film Office allowed her to observe, learn and engage with original art and artists from all over the world. These foundational encounters further cultivated her passion and today, she is rewarded with a rich, lifelong devotion to the study and craft of photography.
