What Light Touches

For photographers living in the northern hemisphere, I can’t think of a time more worthy of our attention than Winter Solstice. At this ancient cusp, when darkness turns back towards the light, we can pause and offer reverence to the most essential and mysterious element of our craft.

When pondering light, it is good to remember that the fundamental nature of light has eluded scientists for centuries. While we understand what light illuminates and have explored light’s deeds and actions, light itself remains invisible. Shine light into a dark chamber, and it is only made known by what it touches.
