Six Feet is a collaborative, artist-led photography collective that began as an urgent call to photographers everywhere to share personal and intimate images from within this time of social distancing and confinement. Very quickly, we have grown into a community-of-practice. At the heart of this project is a passion for photography, a belief in the transformative power of the medium, and a genuine desire to foster the creative lives of photographers (of all levels). Together we are creating a visual narrative of this uncertain time.

During this time of physical separation, the Six Feet collective is a doorway to community. Here you will find forums and practice groups, artist talks, calls-for-engagement, and photographers of all levels willing to generously share their skills and works in progress. As we adapt to the shifting boundaries of this time, photography offers us a way to find personal meaning and a deep sense of connection. We believe photography matters now more than ever, both because of the images we make, and the people we become through the act of making and sharing.

While we don’t know how long the pandemic will last, or how long we will shelter in place, we do know that this is a time for open eyes and courageous engagement. It’s a time to question, absorb, respond, and record. Will you join us in taking up the challenge to create and share photographs from within this extraordinary time?

And, when we no longer need to be physically apart, we will work together to bring the photographs and content that we created back out into the physical world, where it is sorely needed. We are already in conversation with festivals, galleries, museums, and publishers. We can all figure it out as we go.

There is no doubt that the social, economic and emotional implications will ripple through our collective consciousness for decades. We will all continue to make work and react to this pandemic long beyond the time of government sanctions. Coming together as a community will never be more important than in the coming years as we rebuild and rethink a new normal.
