Off The Wall with Dale Rio - FULL
Starts December 9th, meets for six Thursdays, 6 - 9 pm ET
Photography is oftentimes thought of as a two-dimensional, representative art form, but it need not be so limited. Photographic imagery can be combined with other media - writing, fiber arts, etc. - to create cross-disciplinary artwork and/or utilized in sculptural forms that take it out of the two-dimensional. In this practice group, we'll explore experimental ways to create and present photography-based artwork, particularly in relation to conceptual projects.
Dale Rio is a visual artist whose lens-based and lensless photographic work explores issues such as mortality and man’s relationship with the natural world. Utilizing film and historic photographic processes, Dale’s vision expands both outward – with observation and documentation of the world around her – and inward with personal reflection upon those observations.
Dale received an MFA in Photography from Pratt Institute in 1996 and was awarded a Fulbright Travel Grant and the Miguel Vinciguerra Grant the following year. Upon her return to the States, Dale embarked upon a varied photographic career that has included freelancing, serving as a master darkroom printer, teaching, editing, and curating.
Non-refundable donations in any amount are encouraged and gratefully accepted. They will go to support both the facilitator and the Six Feet Photography Project. Currently, practice groups do not have any additional funding and provide a unique practice environment for participants.
