Sometimes all that’s left of moments in our lives are the photographs. They hold memories both joyful and traumatic. They document places and events we forgot or might like to forget. As photographers, we can document ourselves however we choose.

This practice group will create photo-biographies and explore and compare how others have photographed us throughout our lives with how we have or would like to, photograph ourselves. What makes us turn the camera around? How do self-portraits create or open up boundaries with the viewer and within ourselves? How do we choose what to show or what to hide? We will look at photographers who practice self-portraiture, and share, discuss, develop, and further our own self-portraiture practice.

Juno Rosenhaus {s-he-r} is a photoartist, andro-dyke feminist, anti-racist/anti-fascist activist, and lapsed drummer. Juno’s work explores issues of self-perception, feminist identities, and queer communities through photographic portraiture and associated tendencies. She has studied art, photography, sociology, and women’s studies in various places and resides on occupied Lenape land (Philadelphia, PA, USA).

Participants will be expected to:

1. Attend all five practice group sessions.

2. Set goal for these five weeks and for 2021.

3. Show past work and 10-20 self-portraits done during these five weeks.

Questions to consider:

1. What is attracting you to this practice group?

2. Do you identify as a woman or non-binary person?

3. Does your practice already include self-portraiture OR are you an experienced photographer interested in adding self-portraiture to your practice?

Please register with the link below and consider supporting our facilitators with a donation. We will prioritize registration from people who are not currently attending a “boundaries” focused practice group, but please email us at info@sixfeet.photography so that we can place you on a waiting list for any available spaces.
